through their eyes

I got a little surprise posted on our Facebook page the other day. Kayla an awesome past bride of ours sent me this pic.  It's clearly not a professional one, but someone that was just admiring our work.  Which I have to admit I might love it that much more because someone wasn't paid to take it, but someone was just caught in the moment of enjoying  the flower and felt so inspired to capture them.  And after all... isn't that moment what it is ALL about?

Thank you Kayla for taking a little time out of your day to share this with us.

new camera new pics

Today we had the pleasure of meeting with one of our spring brides for a quick meeting to show her a mock up for her wedding.  I love creating these as you see the client's face light up, their vision is coming to reality and you can tell that's one of the moments it hits them.  This bride is creating a very fun look with a variety of different element in an outdoor space.  Her colors are turquoise, blush gold and white.

I must admit that there is a little bit of anxiety that comes with a mock-up, as this is the first time you are showing your work to your client.  You are showing that everything you've discussed has been understood.  There is a sense of vulnerability that only an artist can understand.  It's almost as if you are giving your first big speech in your High-School Speech class.  You've poured your heart out and now the pause... a little bit of silence... and then you wait for the critique.

So... she loved them! Our mock-up was a success.

vendors are the key

Several weeks ago I got invited to attend an event where Mindy Weiss, event planner to the stars, would be speaking.  I truly enjoyed her and thought her experience and expertise was amazing to listen to and soak in.  One of the more important moments was when I heard her say adamantly that her vendors are her secret to success.  She has built bonds with them because of their quality of work, communication and capabilities to create unbelievable events.

Today we highlight one of those vendors that always makes that happen.  Christina at Pomp and Circumstance has shown a level of expertise that I have not seen too often.  She communicates more efficiently and consistently than anyone else I know.  She truly loves what she does and it shows.  She puts her client first, at all cost.  But never forgets and values her vendors and it shows.

Event planners can't design your flowers, can't DJ, can't cook the food your guests will eat but what they can do is hear all of the client's desires and curate an event with the best vendors to make all that happen.  And then happen in a manner that would amaze.

take 3

This blog post is on its third take.  After the internet going out on me right as I am about to save the post :-/  so then what happens is that it doesn't save and I have to start all over.  Just a typical day at the Maxit studio.  There are these days that take a little more patience to make things happen than others.  So here it goes...

We loved being contacted by Katie Lamb of BLUSH to create this flower boa.  It has been fun to see it evolve into a new trend in the midst of creating this for her.  It truly photographs so well and is the perfect accessory for a Bride's Bridals or just like this one, a Boudoir shoot.

this thank you

Yesterday I heard the UPS ladies little foot steps as she walked up the driveway to our front door.  I got excited but quickly went through the inventory of items ordered on-line and mentally confirmed that I hadn't ordered anything in a while.  So I quickly ran out to make sure they got the right address, just in case I needed to catch her before she left.

I looked down and saw a little brown box addressed to ME!!! It made my day.  It immediately made me feel so special and loved.  But then I started to unravel this adorable package and this is what I found.  The sweetest, most thoughtful surprise I have ever received from  a photographer.

A hand written thank you note and a large stack of printed images from our photo shoot beautifully wrapped in silk ribbon.

A person that feels appreciated will always do more than what is expected.

So who was this amazing January Santa?  Alicia Pyne of Alicia Pyne Photography.  We got a chance to work with her a couple weeks ago for an epic photo shoot.  It was beautiful designed and executed and felt like I was living in a movie moment for the day.  I will have to keep these images under wraps for now, but when I can release them I will.  They are breath taking!
